A Group of Dutch Delft Style Tankards
This lot comprises a group of nine ceramic tankards in the Dutch Delft style, offered as a mixed collection with several examples advertising Heineken and one commemorating Wildenrath Golf Club. The pieces are heavy-bodied and glazed in cream and cobalt blue, decorated with hand-painted style scenes of windmills, sailing boats, canal-side houses and stylised floral borders. Several tankards carry a cartouche-style panel, while others have a single reserve-style motif, and a further example is finished in maroon with a large bloom design. Handles vary in form, with some pieces featuring a strap-style grip and others a more substantial loop. The group reflects a popular mid-to-late twentieth century tradition of Dutch-inspired souvenir and promotional drinkware.
Condition and Collector Appeal
Viewed in the auction photograph, the tankards appear to present with good surface glaze and clear decoration, and no obvious major damage is apparent at this resolution. However, they have not been examined under close magnification or tested for hairline cracks, crazing, chips to the rims or handles, and prospective bidders should inspect them carefully before bidding. Wear to the base rims and minor surface marks may be expected on pieces of this age and type. Originality appears consistent across the group, with the printed and painted designs still crisp. The lot will appeal to breweriana enthusiasts, collectors of Delft-style pottery and those seeking unusual advertising ceramics or a themed display set.
