English Civil War Lobster Tail Pot Helmet
This is an English Civil War period lobster tail pot helmet, likely used by cavalrymen such as Harquebusiers during the 17th century. The helmet features a distinctive segmented tail protecting the back of the neck, a rounded skull, and a projecting peak. It would have been worn with a buff coat and other protective clothing to defend against sword cuts and musket balls.
Condition and Collectibility
This helmet exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with its historical period and use. The metal shows corrosion and patina, and some segments may be loose or damaged. Despite its condition, this helmet is a fascinating and rare example of 17th-century armour, highly sought after by collectors of military history and antique weaponry.
