Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger
This is a Fairbairn Sykes Commando dagger, believed to be a third pattern example. These iconic fighting knives were designed by William E. Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes for close-quarters combat, particularly for British Commandos, Special Forces, and other elite units during World War II. The dagger features a distinctive, leaf-shaped blade intended for both cutting and thrusting, and a textured grip for a secure hold. This example showcases the characteristic blade shape and handle construction of the third pattern, though with a notable damage to the blade tip.
Condition and Collectibility
This dagger shows signs of age and use, consistent with its military history. The blade exhibits significant wear and the tip is broken, indicating potential field use or damage. Despite this damage, the dagger remains a desirable piece for collectors of military edged weapons, particularly those interested in WWII British Commando equipment. The textured grip is intact, and the overall construction appears solid, making it a fascinating example of a historically significant fighting knife.
