Going on Duty Miniature
This is a charming framed miniature watercolour painting, titled “Going on Duty”, dating to 1865. The scene depicts a soldier bidding farewell to a woman and child, likely before departing for service. The painting is executed in a delicate style typical of Victorian miniatures, with attention to detail in the figures’ clothing and expressions. The miniature is housed within a simple, yet elegant, wooden frame, enhancing its antique appeal.
Condition and Collectibility
The miniature watercolour and frame exhibit signs of age and wear consistent with their age. There are minor imperfections to the paint surface and frame, which contribute to its character and authenticity. This piece would appeal to collectors of Victorian art, military memorabilia, or miniature paintings, offering a glimpse into the social and emotional landscape of the 19th century.
