French Bayard 8 Day Brass Carriage Clock
This French brass carriage clock is marked Bayard to the white dial, which is also inscribed 8 DAY and MADE IN FRANCE. The hint supplied with the lot dates it to the 1930s and names the makers as Duverdrey and Blowuel, a name that appears in part on the rear door plate alongside the word France. The clock has a rectangular brass case with a carrying handle, a bevelled glass front and glazed sides, and a stepped base. The dial carries bold black Roman numerals, a minute track and a single pair of blued hands. The rear door is hinged and opens to reveal the movement.

Condition and Collector Interest
The brass case shows general wear, including tarnishing and surface marks to the top plate and handle. The dial is clean, and the glass is intact to the front and sides. A paper tag remains attached to the handle. No guarantee is given as to the mechanical condition of the movement, and prospective buyers should satisfy themselves on this before bidding. Carriage clocks of this type, especially those bearing a French maker’s name and a stated 8 day movement, are popular with collectors of early to mid twentieth century French clocks and with those seeking a compact decorative timepiece for a desk or mantelpiece.
