French Model 1822 Light Cavalry Sabre

This is a French Model 1822 Light Cavalry Officer’s Sabre, a classic example of 19th-century military edged weapons. Featuring a curved blade designed for swift cutting and thrusting, this sabre was standard issue for French light cavalry officers during the Restoration period and beyond. The hilt is constructed of brass, with a knuckle-bow and a grip wrapped in a textured material, likely sharkskin or ray skin, providing a secure hold. The blade displays a fuller, reducing weight while maintaining strength, and the overall design reflects a balance between elegance and functionality.

Condition and Collectibility

This sabre exhibits signs of age and use, consistent with its antique nature. The blade shows some patina and minor imperfections, while the brass hilt displays wear and possible slight corrosion. Despite these signs of age, the sabre remains a visually striking and historically significant piece. It would be a desirable addition to a collection of antique military weapons, particularly for those interested in Napoleonic or 19th-century French military history.
