Framed George Vertue Engraving of London Bridge

This lot is a framed antique engraving after George Vertue, published in 1748, depicting London Bridge as it was first built in 1209. The sheet is inscribed with the title “London Bridge” and presents an elevation of the bridge’s arches above a row of plan views of the piers and starlings. Below, a decorative cartouche bears armorial motifs and printed text panels, which are drawn in fine line engraving. The print is set in a black-finished wooden frame with a cream mount and a gilt inner slip.

Condition and Collectability

The engraving is mounted and framed as offered, with the sheet sitting behind a cream card mount. The mount shows some light toning and the frame has minor marks and surface wear consistent with its age. No restoration is described in this entry, and buyers are invited to inspect the lot in person or request further details before bidding. The subject is of enduring interest to collectors of London topography and early English engraving, and the 1748 date and link to the medieval bridge make it a appealing piece for historical display.
