Navette Mourning Brooch

This is a delicate Georgian navette-shaped brooch, crafted in gold and featuring a sepia-toned miniature scene. The central motif depicts a pair of doves, reminiscent of the ‘doves of Pliny’, perched atop a classical vase. The brooch is meticulously detailed, showcasing the artistry of the period. The navette form, popular in the Georgian and early Victorian eras, lends an elegant and refined aesthetic to this piece of mourning jewellery.

Condition and Collectibility

The brooch exhibits signs consistent with its age, including gentle wear to the gold and minor imperfections to the miniature. The original pin and clasp are present, though may show some age-related wear. This brooch would appeal to collectors of Georgian jewellery, mourning pieces, or miniature portraits. Its unique depiction of the doves of Pliny and overall craftsmanship make it a desirable addition to any collection.
