An 18th Century Georgian Silver Pair Case Pocket Watch by Edward Tomlin
This antique pocket watch is a Georgian English silver pair case watch attributed to the maker Edward Tomlin, recorded as trading from 69 Threadneedle Street. It has a white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and blued hands, set within a silver outer case with a hallmarked bow and hallmarks visible on the inner case. The watch is offered with paper labels inside the case, including a printed label from C.D. Gilbert, Practical Watchmaker, Jeweller and Optician, of 14 St Sepulchre Gate, Doncaster.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
This watch is offered as spares or for repair, and it is not described as complete or in working order. The silver case shows general wear and surface marks, and the dial shows some marks and speckling. The paper labels inside the case are aged, with discolouration and small areas of loss. Because the watch retains its hallmarked silver outer case, its enamel dial and its original paper labels, it may appeal to collectors of Georgian watches and English makers, as well as to restorers seeking parts or a project.
