Hallmarked Silver Fruit Knife with Mother of Pearl Handle
This lot is a hallmarked silver fruit knife with a mother of pearl handle. It is a folding knife with a single silver blade, which is hinged at a silver bolster. The blade is stamped with hallmarks, and the handle is finished in mother of pearl with a small silver plaque set into one side. Its compact size and traditional form make it a practical example of the fruit knives once carried or kept for table use.
Condition and Collectability
The blade shows light surface scratches and general handling marks consistent with age and use. The mother of pearl handle has a warm, lustrous finish and is held to the silver bolster with small pins. The silver elements have a softer patina, and the piece is offered as seen. Hallmarked folding fruit knives with mother of pearl handles appeal to collectors of silver, English table cutlery and small antique pocket items, as well as to buyers looking for a decorative and historic piece.
