Hallmarked Silver Georgian Caddy Spoon and Victorian Small Hallmarked Silver Picture Frame
This lot comprises two hallmarked silver items: a Georgian caddy spoon weighing 5.75g and a small Victorian hallmarked silver picture frame. The spoon has a shell-shaped bowl with fluted ridges radiating from the base, joined to a long, tapering handle. The frame is rectangular with a beaded border to the outer edge and a raised inner moulding around the picture panel. Its reverse appears to be covered in black velvet, and the frame is designed to stand upright on a surface. Both pieces carry hallmarks, visible to the rim of the frame and on the reverse of the spoon handle.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
Both items show signs of age and handling. The silver to the frame has areas of wear and tarnish, with visible rubbing along the raised edges, and the velvet backing shows some wear and loss of pile. The spoon displays surface wear, light scratching and tarnish across the bowl and handle. No repairs or alterations are evident in the images, and both pieces appear to retain their original form. The combination of an early caddy spoon and a Victorian silver frame will appeal to collectors of small hallmarked silver, particularly those interested in Georgian and Victorian domestic silver and its hallmarks.
