Hand Carved Marine Mammal Vertebra
This hand carved marine mammal vertebra is a sculptural piece of natural bone, offered as a decorative curio. The bone has a broad, three-pronged form with a porous, textured surface. The carver has worked a face into the bone, with a raised nose featuring two nostrils and a curved smile cut into the lower section. White pigment covers the central area, and yellowish staining is visible along part of it, adding contrast to the carved features.
Condition and Collector Interest
The natural porous texture of the bone is visible across the piece, and general age-related wear is evident on the surface. The white pigment shows fine cracking in places, and the yellowish staining is confined to the central section. The carving remains clearly defined, giving the piece a distinctive character. Buyers interested in hand carved bone sculpture, natural marine materials or unusual decorative curios may find this item of particular appeal.
