Introduction

This is a striking, hand-carved totem pole, likely originating from a Polynesian artistic tradition. The pole features multiple stacked figures, each with distinct facial features and intricate geometric patterns adorning their bodies. Crafted from a dense hardwood, the sculpture exhibits a robust construction and a weathered patina, suggesting age and exposure to the elements. The stacked figures and detailed carvings demonstrate a skilled artisan’s dedication to traditional techniques and storytelling.

Condition

The totem pole displays signs of considerable age and weathering, with surface cracks, chips, and a faded finish. These imperfections contribute to its character and authenticity, indicating a history of outdoor display. Despite its condition, the structural integrity of the pole appears sound, making it a compelling piece for collectors of ethnographic art or those seeking a unique statement piece for their garden or outdoor space. The weathered appearance adds to its appeal, suggesting a rich history and a connection to its cultural origins.
