Two Vintage Hoselton Canadian Cast Aluminium Trinket Dishes

This lot offers a pair of vintage cast aluminium trinket dishes bearing the Hoselton name and marked Canada, making them an appealing find for collectors of Canadian studio craft. Each dish is shallow and oval, with a softly pebbled outline that suggests hand finishing rather than mass production. The pieces are well suited to holding rings, keys, coins or small personal items on a dressing table or desk.

The two dishes are decorated differently. One features a raised, incised botanical motif of broad leaves radiating from a central stem, while the other shows a stylised animal beside a band of reeds and water lines. The reverses carry the maker’s marks, including the Canada stamp and a pair of hand-applied numerals, along with a scripted signature. The cast aluminium has a satin, slightly mottled finish, typical of work from this period and of the hand-cast tradition.

Condition and Collectability

Both dishes show the expected signs of age, including fine surface scratches, light handling marks and some uneven patina consistent with decades of use. There are no major dents or cracks visible in the photographs, and the decorative relief remains clear on both pieces. Buyers should inspect the images carefully and consider the wear as part of the object’s history rather than a fault.

Originality is strong, as the marks, signatures and decoration appear to be original to each piece. Pairs of signed Canadian aluminium dishes like these attract interest from collectors of mid-century and later Canadian craft, as well as those who enjoy small decorative pieces with a distinctive handmade character.
