Vintage Ind Coope The Trout Tin Pub Sign
This large vintage tin pub sign advertises Ind Coope and carries the name of The Trout. It is a rectangular panel set within a white painted timber frame. The upper band reads “IND COOPE” in bold black lettering on a gold ground, and the lower band reads “THE TROUT” in matching black capitals. The central field is painted dark green and shows a leaping brown trout, finished in golden tones with red spots along its flank. The fish is rendered in a bold, graphic style typical of traditional public house advertising.
Condition and Collectability
The sign shows clear signs of age and use. The paintwork has worn in places, with flaking and surface marks visible across the green background and gold bands, and the timber frame is weathered, with paint loss and splitting to the edges. The lettering and the trout remain legible. Original wear of this kind is often valued by collectors of breweriana and pub signage, as it reflects the sign’s genuine history. Its bold colours, clear branding and decorative subject make it an appealing piece for those interested in vintage advertising or for display in a traditional setting.
