A Large Double-Sided Chequers Sign
This is a substantial, double-sided pub sign depicting a vibrant scene of figures playing games on a chequered lawn, framed by a classic chequerboard border. The sign originates from the Chequers pub in Prestwood, and its bold colours and detailed imagery suggest it was designed to be highly visible and attract customers. The sign’s construction appears to be of a traditional style, likely painted on a sturdy board for durability and longevity.
Condition and Collectability
The sign exhibits signs of age and use, with some minor wear and imperfections consistent with its history as a public house fixture. Despite this, the colours remain remarkably bright, and the overall structure is sound. This sign would be a desirable addition to a collection of pub memorabilia, vintage signage, or British pub history, and would make a striking display piece for a home bar or games room.
