Westminster Street Lantern

This impressive lantern is a substantial example of street lighting, originating from Westminster, London. Constructed from copper, it features a classic design with a large viewing panel, originally intended to house a gas or early electric light source. The lantern’s robust construction and scale suggest it was designed for a prominent location, and the ‘Dw Windsor’ marking indicates its manufacturer and likely period of production.

Condition and Collectibility

The lantern presents with signs of age and weathering consistent with its outdoor use and historical period. It is missing panes of glass, and the copper exhibits patina and some corrosion. Despite this, it remains a highly desirable piece for collectors of street furniture, architectural salvage, or those interested in the history of urban lighting. Its scale and provenance make it a statement piece, suitable for restoration or display.
