Antique French Louis XVI-Style Open Armchair
This antique French Louis XVI-style open armchair is offered with a set of matching side chairs. It is a refined example of the neoclassical seating associated with the Louis XVI taste, with an elegant open-arm form and a light-toned wooden frame.
The armchair has a rounded, padded back and open arms, with the upholstery framed by a fine studded or braided edge. The serpentine seat rail curves gently to the front, and the front legs are tapered and fluted, a characteristic feature of the period style. The green upholstery has a subtle woven pattern across the back and seat.
Condition and Collector Interest
The green upholstery shows some fading and general wear, and the light wood displays marks consistent with age and use. Originality cannot be confirmed from the photographs alone, and prospective buyers are advised to inspect the piece in person before bidding. Its classic proportions and period-inspired detailing may appeal to collectors of French antique seating or to those seeking a characterful open armchair for a dining or formal setting.
