Mid Century Smiths Silent Strike Mantle Clock with Key
This mid century mantle clock was made by Smiths, a British manufacturer long associated with domestic clockwork. It has an arched case finished in a warm wood veneer with a rounded top and wedge-shaped feet. The cream dial carries blue-outlined Arabic numerals, a brass bezel and a Made in Great Britain inscription. The movement is marked with a Silent Strike label, indicating a mechanism designed to mute the striking function, and a key is included with the lot.
Condition and Collector Appeal
The case shows expected surface wear for a clock of this age, including scuffs and minor marks to the veneer, with some lifting and darkening visible on the top edge. The dial and glass appear clean and the internal movement looks original, with the Silent Strike label still in place. The movement has not been tested, so its operation and timekeeping cannot be confirmed. Its original Smiths movement, British origin and clean mid century lines make it an appealing piece for collectors of vintage clocks and for buyers looking for a characterful bedroom or sideboard timepiece.
