Framed Set of Three Reproduction Nautical Auction Posters

This lot comprises a set of three framed reproduction nautical posters, each styled after an 18th or 19th century maritime auction notice. The first, headed “Captured from the French”, announces a prize to be exposed for sale at Wynns Hotel, Falmouth, on Tuesday the 13th day of March, 1798. It lists a range of goods including wheat flour, wine, timber, salt pork, rope and anchors, and is signed by Henry Williams of Falmouth. The second poster, headed “Wreck”, advertises a sale by auction on Wednesday, the 29th day of April, 1812, at St Marys, Isles of Scilly, with a detailed inventory of iron rod, tinned plate, cast iron pots, Manchester velvet and other goods. The third, headed “Salvaged Goods for Sale”, gives notice of an auction at Cadgwith, Lizard and Falmouth on Thursday, 10th October, 1872, covering sails, rigging, spars, anchors, copper and other materials salvaged from two Italian barques.

Condition, Presentation and Collector Appeal

Each poster is presented within a black-finished frame, with the printed text set on cream, aged-style paper. As these are reproductions rather than original documents, they are offered as decorative pieces and as a record of the period’s maritime trade notices rather than as historic originals. Please contact the saleroom for further information on the condition of the frames and glazing before bidding. The set will appeal to collectors of nautical ephemera, maritime history enthusiasts, and buyers looking for period-style wall decor for a coastal, seafaring or study setting.
