Cardew Design Signed Limited Edition Welsh Dresser Teapot

This blue glazed teapot is modelled in the form of a Welsh dresser and is attributed to Cardew Design. The underside bears the Cardew Design mark, the words “Made in England”, and a hand-written signature reading “P. Cardew”. Gold lettering on the base reads “Limited Edition” with the number 3074/15,000, indicating that this is numbered example 3074 from an edition of 15,000.

The body is styled as a dresser with a tiered top, a row of decorative plates, and a lower cupboard section with three drawers. The plates depict a rooster, a sheep, a pig and a cow, and a further rooster plate sits on the middle shelf. Smaller ceramic pieces are arranged on the shelves, including a miniature teapot, a cow-decorated jug, a chick-decorated cup, and a hen seated on a basket lid. The lower section holds a rooster-decorated jug, a bowl of green apples, and a green bottle. A small bowl rests on a gilt-framed tray atop the piece, alongside a printed newspaper. The spout and handle are glazed to match the body.

Condition and Collector Interest

This teapot is offered in the condition shown in the lot description. Some light wear is visible to the glaze along the lower edges of the base, and the small decorative pieces appear to be present. No assurance is given regarding the functional use of the teapot. Its numbered limited edition status and the hand-written signature of P. Cardew are notable features that may appeal to collectors of signed and limited edition ceramics, as well as admirers of novelty teapots and Cardew Design pieces.
