Pair of Hand Coloured Cow Engravings after H. Stafford
This lot comprises a pair of original hand coloured engravings of cattle, each depicting a single animal in a rural setting. The engravings are attributed to E. Noyce after H. Stafford. Both prints are presented side by side in a single wooden frame with a terracotta-coloured mount and a narrow gilt inner slip, with each engraving sitting behind its own glass panel. The upper print shows a broad-bodied animal in profile against a pale sky, while the lower print shows a standing animal in a similar landscape. Lettering beneath each engraving is printed in small capitals, and the hand colouring adds soft tonal variation to the animals and their surroundings.
Condition and Collector Appeal
Both engravings are presented in their original mounts and are displayed behind glass, which suggests they have been kept as a matched pair for some time. Visible wear includes a torn adhesive label along the lower edge of the upper frame and a small section of damage to a paper label on the lower frame. The condition of the prints beneath the glass has not been independently assessed, and prospective buyers are advised to inspect the lot in person before bidding. Original hand coloured engravings of livestock from this period are of interest to collectors of rural and agricultural art, as well as to those seeking decorative antique prints for country-style interiors.
