Penguin Classics The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
This lot is a copy of The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, published in the Penguin Classics series and offered as a 1st Edition. The cover names David Magarshack as the translator of this new translation. The book is a paperback with a red border surrounding a cream central panel, which carries the author’s name, the title and a small black and white wood-engraved illustration of a circular scene showing a barred window and a bed. The spine is printed with the author’s name and title, and a price of 5/- is marked on the front cover.
Condition and Collectability
The cover shows general wear consistent with age and use. The corners and edges are rubbed, the red cover has marks and discolouration, and the spine has faded and shows signs of wear. The cover panel has some light staining. The interior pages were not photographed and their condition is not described here. Buyers interested in vintage Penguin Classics, early translations of Dostoyevsky, or the Penguin Classics series from the mid-twentieth century may find this copy appealing as a collectable reading or display piece.
