Framed Watercolour by Percy Lancaster, 1920s
This framed watercolour by Percy Lancaster is described as dating from the 1920s and depicts the South Downs. The landscape shows a pale chalk escarpment on the left, rolling grassland in ochre and green tones, and a winding stream in the foreground. Purple-tinged hills recede beneath a pale blue sky with soft clouds. The work is set in a dark wooden frame with a cream mount.
Condition and Collector Interest
The frame shows some minor marks and chips to its edges, and a sticker is affixed to the upper right corner of the mount. The watercolour sits within a cream mount, and the overall presentation is in keeping with its age. Buyers interested in interwar English landscape art, or in works depicting the South Downs, may wish to view the piece in person before bidding.
