Pair of Persian Watercolours on Silk Depicting a Royal Procession
This lot comprises two framed Persian watercolours on silk, each depicting a royal procession. The larger of the two shows a richly decorated elephant carrying a canopied howdah, within which two figures are seated. An attendant walks alongside, and a further figure in orange robes stands to the right. The dark ground is framed by a border of pink flowers, and a range of green hills and a distant tower sit behind the scene. The smaller painting is set within a blue-patterned border and shows a processional scene across an open landscape. An elephant bearing a parasol and a seated figure leads a group that includes a camel rider, a horse rider and several attendants carrying fans and banners. A domed building is visible on the left horizon.
Condition and Presentation
Both works are presented in their frames. The larger painting is set in a red-brown wooden frame with a gilt edge and a cream mount, while the smaller painting has a gilt frame with a pale green mount and an inner blue border. The condition of each painting is not described in detail here, and prospective buyers are encouraged to view the lot in person before the sale. As a pair of Persian silk paintings with distinct compositions and framing, the lot may appeal to collectors of Persian painting and to those seeking decorative wall pieces with a royal theme.
