Seven Pewter Trinket Boxes, Including Heart, Flower and Swan Designs
This lot comprises a group of pewter and white-metal trinket boxes in a variety of shapes and finishes. The pieces include a flower-form box with a red cabochon stone at the centre of its lid, a heart-shaped box with a pierced and studded lid and a swan finial resting on a purple stone, and a star-shaped box with a cream enamel lid set with clear stones and floral openwork to the sides. Smaller hexagonal and cube-form boxes feature relief decoration of a swan, a lily pad and a flower, with short inscriptions on their sides. The heart-shaped piece bears a script inscription on its base, and the cube-form box carries a floral motif. The lot is described as seven pieces, and six are shown in the photograph, so buyers should check the full quantity on viewing.
Condition and Collector Appeal
The boxes show general wear consistent with their age and handling, including minor marks and tarnish to the metal surfaces. Some of the decorative stones and enamel areas show light surface wear, and the condition of each lid and hinge has not been tested. Please examine the photographs carefully and inspect the pieces in person if possible before bidding. Miniature pewter boxes of this kind are popular with collectors of decorative trinket boxes, particularly for the variety of motifs and the mix of shapes in one lot. The group would suit a collection, a display cabinet or a buyer looking for small pieces with character.
