Pair of Pickaxe Heads
Offered here is a pair of pickaxe heads, presented as a single lot. One head has a broad, flat blade that widens from a tubular socket, while the other has a longer, tapering blade with a slightly curved profile. Both feature a open socket designed to receive a wooden handle, a traditional construction for digging and breaking ground. The heads are plain in form, with no maker’s marks or decorative detailing evident.
Condition and Originality
Both heads show clear signs of age and use, including rust and surface wear across the metal, with some pitting and discolouration to the blades. The sockets display general weathering, and no handles are fitted. Their unrestored state and robust, utilitarian form may appeal to collectors of antique hand tools, rural and agricultural ironwork, or buyers seeking original pieces for display, restoration or practical reuse.
