Pre 1953 RAF Ephemera Collection with Brass Buttons and Button Stick
This lot is a collection of Royal Air Force ephemera described as pre 1953, offered together with a bag of brass buttons and a metal button stick. The visible paper items include a number of buff envelopes printed “On Her Majesty’s Service” with Official Paid markings. There is also a blue Royal Air Force Certificate of Service, printed with the RAF crest and the wording “Any person finding this Certificate is requested to forward it in an unstamped addressed envelope to the Under Secretary of State, Air Ministry, London, W.C.1”. A blue Royal Air Force notebook for use in schools and in General Education Scheme classes completes the paperwork. The brass buttons are loose in a resealable bag, and the button stick is a traditional metal tool used when cleaning uniform buttons.
Condition and Collector Interest
The envelopes show age-related creasing, handling marks and wear to their edges, consistent with their period. The certificate and notebook show corresponding cover wear, and the buttons display tarnish and surface marks typical of older brass. Original military paperwork and accessories of this kind are often kept together as a group, so the mixed nature of this lot may appeal to collectors of RAF history, postal history and uniform accessories. Buyers should examine the individual items closely to judge their condition for themselves.
