Heligraph Signal Mirror
This is a vintage Royal Air Force (RAF) Heligraph signalling mirror, originating from emergency dinghy kits used during World War II. The kit comprises a small, square mirror with concentric circular targets, a lightweight plastic aiming device, and a canvas pouch for storage. The canvas pouch is clearly marked “HELIOGRAPH” in embossed lettering. This device was designed to reflect sunlight to attract the attention of rescuers, a crucial piece of equipment for aircrew in the event of a crash at sea.
Condition and Collectibility
The Heligraph appears to be in original condition, showing signs of age and wear consistent with its military history. The mirror surface has some minor surface scratches, but remains reflective. The canvas pouch exhibits wear and discoloration, and the plastic aiming device shows some fragility. We have a viewing day on Saturday 10am-3pm if you are unsure about an item from photos. #### As of 1/10/2021 we will be implementing a 7 day collection rule – items must be collected within 7 days unless an agreement is arranged in the event of instances such as being away on holiday, medical reasons etc. Any lots that are not collected within 7 days will be liable to a storage charge of £1.20 per day.
