Robert Morden’s 1695 Map of Buckinghamshire

This is a beautifully preserved hand-coloured map of Buckinghamshire, created by Robert Morden and published in 1695. As one of the earliest and most detailed county maps of England, it showcases Morden’s skill as a cartographer and engraver. The map details towns, villages, rivers, and prominent landmarks, providing a fascinating glimpse into the geography and landscape of Buckinghamshire during the late 17th century. It’s a highly sought-after piece for collectors of antique maps and British history enthusiasts.

Condition and Collectibility

The map is in remarkably good condition for its age, with vibrant hand-colouring and clear detail. While some minor age-related wear and foxing are present, these do not detract from the map’s overall aesthetic appeal or historical significance. Original maps from this period are increasingly rare, making this a valuable addition to any collection. Its detailed depiction of Buckinghamshire’s landscape and historical features makes it a captivating piece for both collectors and those interested in local history.
