Robertsons & Co Golly Beanie Doll and Two Collectable Miniature Bears Dolls
This lot comprises a Robertsons & Co Golly beanie doll, offered alongside two collectable World of Miniature Bears Ltd edition dolls. The central doll has a black plush head with a full tuft of dark hair, white button-style eyes with black pupils and a red painted mouth. It wears a blue velvet jacket, a yellow felt waistcoat with white buttons, a red bow tie and red trousers, and has black fabric hands and feet. The two boxed dolls are each dressed in costume. One wears a blue floral dress with white lace trim and a blue bow, and holds a white teddy bear. The other wears a red jacket with blue and white gingham trousers, and has a yellow teddy bear beside it. Both are displayed in clear plastic cases on black bases marked “World of Miniature Bears”.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
The two miniature dolls are presented in their original display cases, which show some signs of age. A small label is attached to the central Golly doll. Full condition has not been assessed beyond what is visible in the photographs. The lot brings together a character doll from the Robertsons & Co range with a boxed pair of miniature dolls, which may appeal to collectors of vintage character dolls and older toys. Buyers should note that the Golly figure is a caricature of a Black person, an image now widely regarded as offensive, and it is offered as a historical object.
