Antique Salt Glazed Flagon

This is a large, antique salt-glazed stoneware flagon, bearing the impressed mark ‘G Bruce Clarke, Wallingford’. The flagon exhibits a classic form, typical of 19th-century stoneware production, and the salt-glazing process creates a distinctive textured surface. The size and form suggest it was likely used for storing and dispensing liquids, possibly ale or cider, and the maker’s mark indicates a local pottery tradition in Wallingford.

Condition and Collectability

The flagon shows signs of age and use, with some minor chips and imperfections consistent with its age. These imperfections do not detract from its overall appeal and character, but rather enhance its authenticity. This piece would be a desirable addition to a collection of antique stoneware, pottery, or historical drinking vessels, and is a testament to the craftsmanship of G Bruce Clarke.
