Traditional Silver Plate Toothpick Holder with Shepherd Figure and Pewter Cup

This lot comprises three items: a traditional silver plate toothpick holder, a silver plate lidded pot and a pewter cup. The toothpick holder is a figural piece with a flared, trumpet-form holder with a crimped rim, rising from a round plinth. A young shepherd figure, holding a staff, stands beside the holder, and a small swan rests on the base in front of him. The silver plate pot is a shallow cylindrical box with a fitted domed lid, and the pewter cup is a tapered beaker with embossed decoration showing a building within a border of foliage, with further embossed lettering around the body.

Condition and Collector Interest

The silver plate shows an even, aged patina and areas of tarnish, with some visible wear to the plating on the high points of the holder and the pot. The pewter cup shows surface darkening and light handling marks consistent with age. Please refer to the photographs for an accurate view of each piece and note that the condition of each item has been described as seen. Lots of this kind, combining figural silver plate and souvenir pewter, often appeal to collectors of decorative table pieces and European souvenir wares, and to buyers looking for an inexpensive group of period items.
