This lot is an antique engraving of Francis I, Emperor of Austria, after Sir Thomas Lawrence. The sheet shows the Emperor seated in an upholstered armchair within a draped interior, dressed in military uniform with decorations and a sash. The engraving is printed in monochrome and set within a gilt wood frame behind glass, with a cream mount separating the image from the frame. A caption is printed beneath the figure, which appears to name the sitter as the Emperor of Austria.
Condition and Collector Interest
The gilt frame shows clear signs of age, with areas of wear, flaking and small losses to the gilding, particularly along the edges and corners. The mount and glazing show general age-related wear, and the engraving itself appears to remain intact within the frame. The frame has not been examined for originality of its gilding or fixings, and no condition report has been provided beyond the visible wear described.
