Spanish 19th Century Model Mortar

This lot is a model of a Spanish 19th century mortar, made on the pattern of Lieutenant Colonel Mata, as stated on the accompanying printed box. The model combines a brass barrel with a steel-grey carriage. The barrel has a cast trunnion mounting and a turned muzzle. The carriage is finished with riveted detailing along its sides and has a long trail extending to the rear. It is fitted with two wooden-spoked wheels with brass hubs and a length of chain hangs from the underside of the carriage.

Condition and Originality

This model is offered as incomplete and is not described as complete or working. The brass barrel and steel carriage show general signs of age and handling, and the spoked wooden wheels are present. The lot includes a printed box with a picture of the mortar and the inscriptions “Cañón Antiguo / Antique Cannon” and “Mortero Español del Siglo XIX Diseñado por el Teniente Coronel Mata”. The box shows wear, including edge damage and surface marks. Collectors of military miniatures, Spanish artillery and 19th century ordnance may find this model of interest, particularly with its original box.
