Spitting Image Margaret Thatcher Squeak Toy
This lot is a novelty squeak toy in the form of a Spitting Image caricature of Margaret Thatcher. The Spitting Image name is associated with the British satirical puppet and caricature style, and this piece follows that tradition with exaggerated facial features. The head is topped with voluminous blonde hair, and the face is dominated by a large, bright orange-red nose and a stern expression with wide eyes. The figure is shown as a bust in a dark suit jacket, with a white collar and dark tie. The piece is painted in a bold, flat palette that emphasises its caricatured character.
Condition and Collector Appeal
The figure shows general signs of handling and age, including some visible marks and light surface wear, particularly across the hair and face. Its overall presentation is consistent with a piece that has been kept as a display novelty. Its satirical subject and its link to the Spitting Image series give it appeal for collectors of political memorabilia, British television tie-ins and novelty toys. Buyers interested in caricature art or 1980s and 1990s satirical collectables may find this an attractive example of the genre.
