Vintage Stuart Pillar Mounted Beam Engine Model
This lot is a model of a vintage Stuart pillar mounted beam engine, mounted on a rectangular wooden baseboard. The engine is finished in green with red-painted detailing and nickel-coloured fittings. Its arched beam is carried on a tall fluted pillar, and a vertical cylinder with a domed cover sits beside the drive side of the frame. A large spoked flywheel with a multi-groove pulley is set into a cast frame, and a chain drive runs from the crankshaft to a secondary gear. A small lubricator with a glass-style reservoir and a curved pipe are visible on the engine, adding to the detail of the model.
Condition and Originality
The engine shows age-related wear consistent with its years. The flywheel rim has surface rust and the green paintwork is chipped and worn in places, particularly around the base and cylinder area. The wooden baseboard shows scuffs and general handling marks. Several of the fittings, including the valve gear linkages and the chain drive, show dust and light corrosion. The engine appears to retain much of its original construction and fittings. For collectors of model engineering and vintage steam memorabilia, this piece offers an attractive display model with clear period character and the mechanical interest of a pillar mounted beam layout.
