Sweetheart Banner, 1917

This is a poignant embroidered banner, likely created as a ‘sweetheart’ keepsake during the First World War, dating to 1917. The banner features vibrant red, white, and blue embroidery, possibly depicting patriotic motifs or personal symbols. These banners were commonly made by loved ones for soldiers serving abroad, offering a tangible connection to home and a symbol of affection and hope during wartime.

Condition and Collectibility

The banner shows signs of age and wear consistent with its likely wartime origin and handmade nature. There may be some fading of the embroidery, minor losses to the fabric, or evidence of previous mounting. Despite these imperfections, the banner retains a strong visual impact and offers a fascinating glimpse into the personal lives and emotional experiences of those affected by the First World War. It would be a desirable addition to a collection of militaria, textile art, or historical keepsakes.
