Two Terracotta Plant Pots

This lot comprises two terracotta plant pots, offered as a pair. Both are wide, open-topped vessels with rounded bodies and everted rims, suitable for use as outdoor garden planters. The pot on the right is a warm orange-red terracotta with a moulded rim and a series of fine horizontal ribs encircling the body. It stands on a pale, weathered saucer, which is included with the lot. The left-hand pot is a similar form in a more muted, earthy terracotta, with a plain rim and two raised bands around the upper body. No maker’s marks are visible, and no makers’ details are known.

Condition and Presentation

Both pots show signs of outdoor use and weathering. Green algae or moss staining is visible on the interior and along the lower exterior of the left-hand pot, and there are areas of pale, chalky residue on the rims and lower bodies of both pots. The interior of the right-hand pot shows darkened staining and a light bloom of residue. The surface of the terracotta is generally sound, with no major cracks evident. The patina of age and outdoor exposure may appeal to buyers seeking characterful, weathered planters for period gardens, courtyards or terraces, or to collectors of garden ornament who value original surfaces over restoration.
