Cambridge Hardback The Place-Names of Berkshire, Parts 1-3

This lot comprises a set of three hardback volumes of The Place-Names of Berkshire, covering Parts I, II and III. The volumes form part of the English Place-Name Society series, with spines marked XLIX, L and LI respectively. The set is published by Cambridge, as indicated by the publisher’s crest and imprint on the spines.

The three volumes are bound in blue cloth boards with gold-blocked titles and part numbers to the spines, along with the series details and the Cambridge crest. The uniform binding gives the set a consistent appearance on a shelf, and the spine lettering is the principal decorative feature. A lot sticker is affixed to the spine of the middle volume.

Condition and Collector Interest

The spines show general signs of handling, with some fading and light wear visible to the cloth and gold lettering, particularly on the central volume. Further detail on the internal pages and boards is not stated here, and buyers are welcome to request additional information before bidding. The set may appeal to collectors of English place-name studies, Berkshire local history enthusiasts, and those building a run of English Place-Name Society volumes.
