Antique Salt Glazed Flagons

This lot comprises three large salt-glazed stoneware flagons, one prominently bearing the impressed mark “Patrick Ryan Kilkenny”. These flagons showcase the traditional craftsmanship of Irish pottery, likely dating from the 19th or early 20th century. The salt-glazing technique creates a distinctive textured surface and a durable finish, making these vessels both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The flagons would have originally been used for storing and serving liquids, such as ale, cider, or water.

Condition and Collectibility

These flagons exhibit signs of age and use, including minor chips, crazing, and staining, consistent with their age and history. Despite these imperfections, the flagons remain structurally sound and retain their character. The “Patrick Ryan Kilkenny” marked flagon is particularly desirable to collectors of Irish pottery and historical stoneware, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich ceramic tradition. These flagons would be a valuable addition to any collection or a striking decorative piece for a period home.
