Trendmasters Robbie the Robot Figure

This lot is a 1997 Trendmasters Robbie the Robot figure, a licensed collectable inspired by the iconic robot from the 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet. The toy follows the familiar design of the screen character, with a grey plastic body built from ribbed, accordion-style arms and legs, a rounded torso, and a clear, ribbed glass dome set atop the head. Bright red and yellow antennae and red claw-style hands add the colourful details that make the character so recognisable. The base carries the Robbie footprint, and the chest panel and side switch show the toy’s original mechanical features. Copyright markings on the body credit both Newline Productions and Trendmasters, Inc., and the figure is marked as made in China.

Condition, Originality and Collector Appeal

This Robbie the Robot is offered as untested, and no assurance is given regarding its electronic or mechanical function. Visible wear includes light scuffing and handling marks on the grey body, particularly around the lower torso and legs, along with some general surface marks consistent with age. The head dome, antennae, hands and copyright markings appear to be original, and the figure presents as a largely unaltered example of the 1997 release. Its straightforward, display-ready form and strong link to 1950s science fiction cinema make it attractive to collectors of robot toys, film memorabilia and nostalgic 1990s toys. It would suit a buyer seeking an authentic Trendmasters piece for display or for a collection built around Robbie the Robot.
