Introducing the Pestle and Mortar Set
This lot comprises two vintage pestle and mortar sets. One is crafted from a light-coloured wood, featuring a rounded bowl and a matching pestle. The second set is made of ceramic, likely Wedgwood, and features a creamy white glaze. These sets would have been used for grinding herbs, spices, and other ingredients, and represent a traditional method of food preparation and apothecary practice.
Condition and Collectibility
Both sets show signs of age and use, with some wear and staining consistent with their vintage. The wooden set exhibits some surface scratches and minor imperfections, while the ceramic set may have minor crazing to the glaze. Despite these minor imperfections, both sets remain functional and are desirable pieces for collectors of kitchenalia, apothecary items, or vintage homewares. They offer a glimpse into the past and a charming addition to any kitchen or display.
