Large Victorian Pine Welsh Dresser
This large Victorian pine Welsh dresser is a two-part piece, comprising an upper plate rack and a base unit with a planked top. The upper section has a moulded cornice above a backboard of vertical boards, with three open shelves set between the uprights. The base has three drawers fitted with turned wooden knobs, with an open lower shelf supported by upright divisions. The piece is constructed in solid pine throughout and displays the simple, functional character associated with Victorian country furniture.
Condition and Character
The piece shows age-related wear consistent with its period, including surface marks, knocks and a warm, uneven patina to the timber. Its original form appears to be retained, including the moulded cornice, shelving, drawers and turned knobs. Its generous proportions and unrestored pine finish will appeal to collectors of antique country furniture and to buyers seeking a substantial dresser for a period kitchen, dining room or farmhouse-style interior.
