Victorian Justice Scales
These are a striking set of Victorian justice scales, likely a ‘Justitia Virtutum’ pegina model. The scales feature a circular pan suspended from a beautifully crafted balance arm, supported by a decorative cast iron stand. The design evokes a sense of historical weight and precision, typical of Victorian-era craftsmanship. The scales are a fascinating example of early weighing technology and a testament to the artistry of the period.
Condition and Collectibility
The scales exhibit signs of age and use, with some patina and wear consistent with their age. While the mechanism has not been tested, the scales present well and would be a desirable addition to a collection of antique scientific instruments or Victorian curios. The scales offer a unique opportunity to own a piece of history and would be a conversation starter for any collector or enthusiast.
