A Collection of Air Force Wing Badges and Cloth Patches
This lot comprises a mixed group of air force insignia, including metal wing badges, cloth patches and small embroidered and pin-back insignia. The metal wings are in silver tone and include a pilot’s wing with a star and shield device, a winged badge with a central shield, a further badge with a star and shield, and an aircrew wing with a circular central device. The group also includes a dark blue cloth RAF wings badge bearing a crown and the letters RAF, together with several small gold-coloured winged propeller pin badges and a pair of gold-coloured oak leaf rank pips on brown backing. Three circular cloth patches complete the lot: one blue patch with the numeral 10 and stylised flame wings, one blue patch with the numeral 5 and a comet device, and one blue patch with a gold-coloured winged star design bordered in gold thread.
Condition and Collectability
The items are offered as a collection and are sold as seen. Some edge wear is visible to the circular cloth patches, which show fraying around the borders, and the metal and embroidered pieces show general signs of age. Lots of this type appeal to militaria collectors, aviation enthusiasts and those building a themed display of wartime and post-war air force insignia. Grouping badges, patches and rank pieces together offers a varied selection for collectors looking to expand an existing collection or start a new one.
