Vintage Walt Disney Productions Plush Bambi by Character Novelty Co
This lot is a vintage plush figure of Bambi, the young deer from Walt Disney’s animated feature, produced under the Walt Disney Productions name and made by Character Novelty Co. The figure is shown standing with its head turned to one side, in the familiar upright pose of a young fawn. It is covered in tan velvet-style plush and has a small blue-lettered name tag reading “BAMBI” attached to one ear. Features include a black nose, stitched facial details including an eyebrow and mouth line, and dark-centred eyes set into the head. The body is decorated with darker reddish-brown spotting along the back, and the legs are jointed at the body in the style of many toys of its period.
Condition and Collectability
The figure shows clear signs of age and handling. The plush has faded in places, and there is darkening and rubbing to the hooves and the lower legs, with some general wear to the pile across the body. The stitched detailing to the face remains visible, and the ear tag is present. The Character Novelty Co. licensee label is still attached, which helps to confirm the maker and supports its identification as an early Disney character toy. Original, unrestored vintage Disney plush of this kind, retaining its label and name tag, is likely to appeal to collectors of Walt Disney memorabilia, vintage soft toys and character merchandise. Buyers should consider the wear as part of its age and originality.
