A Selection of Vintage Books Including Bibles
This lot comprises a selection of vintage books, including several bibles and a range of hardback volumes. Titles visible on the spines and covers include George VI King and Emperor, bound in blue cloth with a gold crest, and The King’s Service, in green with a crest to the front board. Also included is The Amateur Gardener by Mrs Loudon, revised and edited by W. Robinson, with numerous illustrations, marked One Shilling and forming part of a Useful Books series, along with Complete Mercantile Arithmetic with Answers by H. P. Green and Flora Shaw, which retains a dust jacket. The bibles are small pocket-sized editions in black and maroon bindings, one of which carries a British and Foreign Bible Society stamp to the cover.
Condition and Collectability
The books show wear consistent with their age, including marks, scuffing and fading to the bindings and covers. The dust jacket to Flora Shaw is torn and worn, and there is a label to the front of The Amateur Gardener. Each volume is offered as seen, and buyers should check the individual items carefully before bidding. The mix of religious texts, gardening, arithmetic and early twentieth-century titles makes this lot of interest to collectors of vintage books, bibles and ephemera, as well as those seeking reading or display pieces.
