A Vintage Cast Iron Station Trolley Reimagined as a Coffee Table
This vintage cast iron train station trolley has been adapted for use as a low coffee table. It offers a practical centrepiece for a living space, with a distinctive industrial character drawn from its original purpose as a platform trolley.
The table has a rectangular top of timber boards laid side by side, set within a dark metal frame with rounded corners and a raised edge. The frame is supported on four cast iron wheels with open spoked centres, and the lower structure includes vertical metal supports and a crossbar. Two of the wheels are mounted on swivel-style brackets, a feature typical of trolleys designed for manoeuvring loads. The combination of worn timber, blackened iron and sturdy castings gives the piece a strong utilitarian look that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Age-Related Wear and Character
This piece shows the marks of age and use that are typical of vintage industrial items. The timber top displays surface wear, scratches and a weathered tone, while the metal frame and cast iron wheels carry a dark, worn finish with signs of general use. No restoration work is evident, so the table retains much of its original appearance. Its authentic patina and robust construction may appeal to collectors of industrial antiques and to buyers seeking a characterful, statement piece with a genuine working history.
