Introduction
This is a vintage oak coal box, designed to hold fuel for a fireplace. The box features a hinged lid and a decorative carved panel to the front. A galvanised steel liner sits within the wooden frame, providing a durable container for the coal. The box is raised on small bun feet, and the overall construction suggests a sturdy and practical piece for a traditional home.
Condition
This coal box shows signs of age and use, with wear and tear commensurate with its vintage. The oak has a weathered appearance, and the galvanised liner exhibits some surface rust, which is typical for items of this age. Despite this, the box remains structurally sound and would be a desirable addition to a collection of antique fireplace accessories or for someone seeking a rustic decorative item.
